Loews Coronado Bay Resort Review
We enjoyed a long weekend stay at this resort property in late spring. The weather was unseasonably cool for San Diego, but the friendly resort staff greeted us warmly. Guests can park free of charge under the hotel buildings, which are connected to the main lobby via a walkway. The family suite included two double beds, which provided enough room for the three of us. Our double bed was a little snug for two adults, but hey, I can always enjoy more snuggle time. I couldn’t get enough of our bay views! We’ve never visited San Diego before and it’s such a picturesque place.
The adult and family pool areas are really inviting and well-designed. We had no trouble finding loungers, and ordering from poolside food and beverage service. There was even an afternoon DJ to spin fun, family-friendly party-tunes. Families were everywhere, enjoying a weekend stay. The vibe was holiday fun, rather than unwelcome party scene. It was just what we were looking for.
For those wanting beach time, the resort has a free shuttle service to nearby Silver Strand State Beach, on the Pacific Ocean. They’ll kit you out with loungers, towels and beach toys upon arrival. You can also sign up for yoga on the beach, or learn to surf or Stand Up Paddleboard. The SUP is probably best done in the calmer waters of the bay rather than the ocean!
Crown Landing Restaurant
A completely renovated Crown Landing opened its doors just a few months ago. It shines a spotlight on San Diego’s distinct character and flavors, offering the freshest seafood available. The new space features a modern, nautical theme of blues and whites. Everything from the tables and chairs to the plates are locally sourced. It’s a really welcoming indoor/outdoor setting with lovely marina views. The food matches the great decor, and focuses on Coastal Cali cuisine. Lots of farm to table goodness here.
Executive Restaurant Chef Jamie Dunn offers locally-inspired fare with a commitment to sourcing seasonal, sustainable ingredients. Bringing it even closer to home, the resort boasts a 3,800 square foot organic garden, providing the kitchen with a fresh array of herbs and vegetables.
The resort offers grab-and-go food service in the Silver Strand Exchange off the main lobby. It’s a casual and friendly counter service with juice bar, breakfast menu, coffee, sandwiches and salads. And don’t forget your daily local gelato, available here too.
